Llama Rentals

Rental Information

Llama rentals are best suited for those with experience in backcountry travel. We offer healthy, well-trained pack llamas, along with high-quality saddles and packs. To ensure a successful trip, we provide a complimentary training clinic to equip you with essential llama care skills. During your trip, you will be responsible for the care of the llamas as well as your own camping gear. Due to our busy trip schedule llama rentals will only be available August 15-November 15th in 2026.

Transport

New Service this season: Rent a stock trailer from us for $250 per week and haul your own llamas. You can transport the llamas to and from Baker City in your own truck and stock trailer. Alternatively, we can shuttle llamas (subject to availability)  to your chosen destination for an additional fee. All personal trailers are subject to our approval and must be dual axel.

Rental Pricing: $75 / day / llama

The rental price includes the llama, halter, lead rope, ground line (for keeping them in camp), saddle and panniers. Each pannier’s large main compartment is approximately 10×20-inches and 16-inches deep. Each pannier has two outside pockets.  Llamas can carry about 65 lbs, and we provide a portable scale. If you use the llamas during hunting seasons, we will supply hunter-orange neck bands.

We require a minimum rental  of 2 llamas.

Rental Agreement

All renters must read and sign a Rental Agreement, which outlines the rental costs, general terms, and liability release for any accidents associated with the use of the rented items. This agreement also includes provisions regarding the care of the llamas and equipment, as well as the actions of renters and their guests.

Training Clinic:

A mandatory training session is required for all rentals. This roughly one-hour session can be conducted on the day of departure or earlier if preferred. During this training, we will cover essential topics such as packing and caring for llamas in the backcountry, loading panniers, securing top loads, managing llamas in camp and on the trail (including feeding, tying them up, staking them out, and navigating water crossings), as well as trail etiquette.

Llama Shuttle Pricing:

Shuttle pricing is dependent on requested trailhead and availability.
